It's been a while since I did any regular blogging. But it turns out that I feel like I have a bit to say about a number of different things and that I need a good place to do it. So its time to bring back my old personal website and start getting back into the habit of sharing my thoughts.
I have owned the tough.net domain for a pretty long time, somewhere around '96 I would guess. I remember sitting around with a friend trying to think of common words that might be interested for a domain name that were not taken. I am occasionally asked if "tough.net" is supposed to mean something, but the reality is that it means absolutely nothing *grin*. It was just available and short and I liked the sound of it. So there you go.
Over the years tough.net has existed in many incarnations, from a purely HTML website to something done in FrontPage to various incarnations of DotNetNuke. It has hosted everything from personal image galleries to Vacation Bible School information, and I think I have rebuilt it on every major version of DotNetNuke since about version 1.0.10. This latest incarnation is a fresh install of DotNetNuke 6.0.1 and a new blog module that I have never tried before called PostIT. Jury is still out on PostIT, but I'm going to give it a shot for a while and see how it works out. I did appreciate that it came with a decent looking skin for blogging which is currently applied to the site (their demo site is in the image).
A couple of things that I really liked about what PostIT illustrated was integration of the Disqus comments and the simple Facebook, Twitter, AddThis integration. But so far I'm having a bit of trouble trying to figure out how to get the Disqus comments working and I can't see anywhere to update the AddThis account information. I logged an inquiry with their support team and they've already responded which is a good sign... so hopefully we''' have the resolved before too long.
Right now this is as much a technology experiment as a blogging restart. I have not actively managed a personal website since I was managing my wife's real estate business website (www.alkihomes.com), and it is sorely in need of some updates. So once I get my bearings on this again I'll be helping her revamp her website as well. Of course, using DotNetNuke ;-)
